OUR VISION
We believe that sustainable future for all must be backboned by a holistic vision of development, supported by global commitments and local actions. Sustaining local communities’ welfare and security is crucial for an inclusive and durable development, in a context of climate change, rapid demographic growth, urban transitions, pressures on natural resources for food and mining, economic and social divides. SURE-Africa envisions a paradigmatic shift from fragile to resilient, safe, and self-sustained African communities through action-research, innovative solutions, and community-led development. Our core values are aligned to the SDGs guiding principles including, social and environmental justice, gender equality, food sovereignty, inclusion, and good governance.
OUR MISSION
SURE-Africa strives to conduct demand-driven research to fuel policy and practice, and we co-construct with stakeholders, innovative solutions that contribute to durable and inclusive urban development and strengthen communities’ resilience to crisis, shocks, disasters, and pandemics (e.g. Covid-19). We support inclusive urban development planning and management through evidence-informed policies making and practice that are inclusive, durable, pro-poor and gender sensitive. We put local communities at the center of our approach, while supporting the government with its responses to climate change adaptation strategies, poverty mitigation, food and nutrition security, urban ecology and quality public health.
